Dad - 2023 - Slideshow

I created a video slideshow for my Dad who just passed away. I asked family members for pictures so I could include them in this slideshow, using almost all of them. I then shared it with family members just so they could watch it before the viewing. My intention was to honor my dad and show some of the memories of this great man. I wanted to play the video during the viewing so I could share the memories we all experienced throughout our lives with him. Everyone seemed to love it. Then I received a text from his recent wife stating how hurtful the video was because I included more pictures of my mom with my dad than pictures of her with my dad. She stated that there shouldn’t be so many pictures of my mom especially ones of them alone together. She also stated how hard the next few days would be for her without this. She would allow a few pictures of them together but not as many as I included in my video. She then went on to make sure I knew she was still his wife. See, the thing is we don’t have that many photos with them together. There seems to be a void in that time period due to a change in my dad’s lifestyle. We definitely stayed in his life every day as he was still a big part of ours, but something was different. My dad was also my friend, we worked together side by side at the bakery which also happens to be a family business with both my dad and mom. Seems kind of odd for a divorced couple to still be together doesn’t it? (See below for an explanation). I wound up not showing the video which really upset me, and to have to set aside our memories of him because someone thought it was all about them, this really hurt the entire family. I never in my life experienced such a selfish act, I felt like the entire family was disrespected, especially the one person we were all there for, my dad and he would have loved it.

My mom has always been an important person in our lives, and my dad felt the same way. My mom spent 40 years of marriage to my dad and every day after that. They were each other’s lifelong best friends and met when my mom was just 15 and my dad was 17, that’s when they began their wonderful journey. There was nothing that could keep them apart from each other and my dad would always confide with my mom. To experience this level of love for one another was simply Beautiful. I never witnessed such a loving spirit between two souls ever in my life. This was happening every day even up to the day my dad passed away.

I could make 100 slideshows of our family together over the years with all the photos we have taken of each other, but this is a start.

Dad, this is for you!

I will forever remember our relationship together, it was a special one.

I love you!
