The Gear Report

The Gear Report

Here I'll try to make a brief report on my gear from the practice room to the gigs.

Ampturco Guitar Werks Cables

It's always nice to find a local business you want to support because you like the product they sell.

Ampturco Guitar Werks is based out of the Scranton area and not that far from me. I found out about the cables through Morris Amplifiers and thought I would try them, so I ordered two 10' guitar cables (Riff Whips) and a 3' speaker cable.

What a fantastic-sounding cable! Clarity, definition, and punch wrapped up in a great-sounding cable. Real nice construction with a heavy wire that feels like it will last a long time. AGW also offers a lifetime warranty.

The speaker cable is cool looking with the way it's wrapped up and also feels solid.

I highly recommend you check out these fantastic cables and I believe you will be happy with the results.

My new favorite!

D'Addario

Checking out some new Accessories from D'Addario. I just received the new Nexxus 360 tuner and the String Height Gauge. I also got another all-time favorite American Stage Cable. I've been using that cable for many years now and find it to be the best cable for my application.

Hey, how did that CD get in there? Hmmm. I heard it's pretty good.

Keeley HALO delay pedal

I like the pedal's simplicity and features; overall, it sounds fantastic. I love the expression pedal feature and I utilized that live on the gig. I'm having an issue with the pedal powering up using my Strymon Zuma and Ojai power units. The pedal will power up ok but when you have to unplug it and plug it back in while the Zuma is on it goes into default mode. I also realized that when it powers up properly you can't use any of the dials or mini-toggle switch for about a minute and then it seems to settle down and work properly.

I've tried a basic Boss power supply that works fine, but it's frustrating having to deal with a pedal like this to get it to work properly, especially when it's gig time... I had it at the gig and when it settled in it was fine. Not sure if I'm going to keep this one, I might return it and just wait until they fix this issue.

I would like to also add that this pedal is not for everybody. If you're not into the dual delay thing then I would suggest checking it out but be aware that 3 of the 5 delay types are dual delay, which means you always have a syncopated dual delay (2 delays) happening. The quarter note and dotted eight settings are not. I'm starting to figure out that I'm not crazy about dual delay all the time and it has its place. When I used the pedal out live the quarter-note and dotted eight-note settings seemed to work best. I programmed both settings in one preset and toggled between each one with satisfactory results.

Very promising pedal.

Update:

I contacted Keeley about the power situation, and they knew what was happening. In one week I had a new pedal with the updated fix. The pedal works great now with no issues.

How's that for customer service? Even sent me a signed pedal.
